A 25-year-old, Akeem Edun, who allegedly beat up his stepmother, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The unemployed, who lives with his father at Ogun River Road, Isheri, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for assault.

Prosecutor Donjor Perezi told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 28 at his residence.

Facebook has apologised for featuring an inverted Philippine flag to mark the country’s independence day on 12 June.

The social network greeted users in the Philippines on Sunday with the message: “Happy Independence Day! Here’s to all of the Philippines’ health, happiness and prosperity.”

Four arrest for selling meat of dead animals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Borno State command, said on Tuesday that it had taken into custody four butchers for allegedly selling the meat of dead animals to residents of Maiduguri.

State Commandant of Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told newsmen that the suspects, who had confessed to committing the crime, were arrested at the Murtala Square area in the state capital.

An 86-year-old woman, Madam Belawu Jimoh, has narrated how she was raped to coma by a suspected serial rapist, popularly known as Badoo in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Badoo, who also allegedly raped and murdered a 27-year-old school teacher, Grace Jubreel, in her home in the presence of her 14-month-old baby in Ibeshe community in Ikorodu, was apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the state Police Command, the Punch had reported.

Ex-wife and former classmates of gunman who shot dead 50 people at Orlando gay nightclub say that he was gay himself. The 29-year-old’s ex-wife, Sitora Yusufiy, and others who survived the massacre have said Mateen had visited the nightclub on several occasions.

Ms Yusufiy told a Brazilian TV station Mateen had "gay tendencies" and said his own father had called him gay in front of her. A regular Pulse goer also claimed Mateen had been messaging him sporadically on a gay dating app for about a year.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A murder trial began Monday for an actor who played a police officer on TV and is accused of shooting and killing his wife while their young children looked on two years ago in their Los Angeles home.

The trial of 53-year-old Michael Jace, who appeared on the FX series "The Shield," promises to explore unanswered questions about what led to the killing.

Few details about the slaying have been released, although a prosecutor has said the actor shot April Jace in the back and then again while their young children watched.

Fake Lawyer arrested in Ogun State after 10 years of practice

Desperation! The Police in Ogun State have arrested a 47-year old man, Ayodele Balogun from Otta area of the state for practicing as a lawyer in the last 10 years without obtaining requisite certificate.

Ayodele who has been parading as a trained lawyer and practicing at the Otta arm of the state Judiciary, was arrested by Detectives attached to the Otta Division of the Ogun Police Command following complainant that he had duped somebody of N140,000.

The Police PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said while he was being interrogated, a notable lawyer in Otta also alerted them of his antecedents and that was how he was exposed during interrogation.

A witness in the ongoing trial of an Executive Director, (Maritime Labour and Cabotage) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency, NIMASA, Calistus Nwabueze Obi and the personal assistant to the former Director General of the agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, Alu Dismas, told a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday May 16th, how his company received the sum of N102, 000,000 from NIMASA without executing any contract.

The witness Kolomi Mohammed, a Bureau de Change operator, made the disclosure when he was asked to explain the financial transactions which occurred on August 5, 2014 and January 21 and 22, 2015 between his company and NIMASA.

In those three days it was discovered that a total sum of N102, 000,000 was transferred from the account of Committee on Intelligence Gathering in NIMASA to the account of Kostan Mega Concept Limited, a company belonging to the witness.
