Ukraine arrested a Frenchman accused of amassing an arsenal of weapons, explosives and tactical gear to attack the European Championship soccer tournament, officials said Monday.

The suspect was arrested trying to cross into the European Union from Ukraine.

Ukrainian agents had been following the man since December, and allowed him to buy five machine guns, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 125 kilograms (275 pounds) of TNT, 100 detonators and other arms. He also bought 20 balaclavas before he was arrested at the Yahodyn border crossing between Ukraine and Poland last month, the Ukrainian Security Service said.

Former Wall Street executive Pedro Pablo Kuczynski’s lead over Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of an imprisoned former authoritarian leader, tightened to just 0.36 percentage points late on Monday.

With a total of 95 percent of votes processed in Peru’s closest presidential election in at least 50 years, Kuczynski led Fujimori by fewer than 60,000 votes.

Bahrain Arrests 8 Men Trying to Escape to Iran by Boat- BNA

Eight men were arrested by Bahrain’s coast guard, as they were attempting to escape to Iran by boat, according to state news agency BNA.

Bahrain’s official agency said two other men it described as “fugitives” had also prearranged the escape from Iran.

The eight men had already been convicted now – in absentia – and consequently sentenced to between 10 to 15 years in prison, BNA said.

Meanwhile, Syrian opposition sources confirmed that over 50 Iranian officers, and a fighter, have died in an al-Nusra Front shelling. In the attack, 13 other Iranian members were apprehended.

missing woman after online date, found slain

TONOPAH, Ariz. -- A missing Arizona woman was found slain in a shallow grave last week, and authorities have arrested a man with whom she went on an online date, reports CBS affiliate KPHO.

25-year-old Angela Russo had been missing since April 19, after reportedly meeting her suspected killer for a date in West Phoenix. Lashawn Johnson, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, was charged with her murder on Sunday, the station reports.

Russo's body was found buried in the desert in Tonopah, about 50 miles west of Phoenix. Her car was reportedly found burned nearby.

Body found in search for second Briton after Thai speedboat crash

A body has been found in the search for a British man missing for four days following a speed boat crash in Thailand - having been recovered close to the area where the boat capsized.

Authorities had been searching for Jason Parnell, since the incident on Thursday, when a huge wave hit the boat off the coast of the island of Koh Samui.
