The standard of education in Nigeria has fallen, but what is currently happening in Kogi state polytechnic is very bad. Lecturers now take the advantage of the school over populated number of student to make money for themselves by making sales of handout which they refer as textbooks compulsory for the students.
In a class of about 2000 students lecturer will sell his book (that has no ISBN) at the price of N1000 and also sale assignment question at the rate of N200 with a serial number and the student that does not have the serial number cannot submit their assignment. Most times test are converted to take home test in which all the class will pay for the question ranging from N50 to N500 each.
The rate of corruption among lecturers in Kogi Poly is very alarming, some few students who will want to protest, will be threatening with carryover and withdrawal, even the student union government have been pocketed by these lecturers. This has led to a gross fall in standard of education lecturers are only after their pockets not impacting knowledge to the students.
It is more common among lecturers in school of management studies, school of general studies and applied science. You can come and investigate it yourself by interviewing the students directly.
We shall be grateful if this complain is looked into and letting the appropriate authority coming into the matter so that sanity will be restore back.
