A 25-year-old, Akeem Edun, who allegedly beat up his stepmother, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The unemployed, who lives with his father at Ogun River Road, Isheri, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for assault.
Prosecutor Donjor Perezi told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 28 at his residence.
He said the accused engaged his stepsister in a fight and she ran to her mother.
“When the accused did not see the girl he decided to beat up her mother and in the process, he damaged the woman’s chair,” according to Sgt. Perezi. The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
